The people who should attend the Attaining and Retaining Job Search Referrals workshop are those that want to leverage landing jobs through contacts they make via networking and from previous companies where they worked.  In most cases, effective networking efforts involve the process of creating internal advocates within a targeted company. It takes a well-defined process to know who to target, how to engage them and the kind of communicates it takes to earn their interest in helping folks in their career endeavors.
 

The presentation was developed as a result of gathering feedback from successful employment landings over the past seven years. Here are the takeaways we will cover during the presentation:
 

The importance of having job referrals as a key part of your job search.
The steps in preparing to search, find and select job referrals. 
How to get an internal sponsor to help your cause.
How to write effective introduction messages.
What to say and do with targeted individuals in face-to-face new networking conversations. 

 

There is an associated quiz that is meant as a quick refresher for the attending students that can be filled out during the workshop presentation.

The Job Referral Templates purpose is meant to capture referral contact and journal information as referrals are met and re-met over time.

Participants can bring their laptops so that they can walk through some of the key hands-on workshop exercises. 

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Bob Rosell has performed Project Management and Software Quality Assurance roles and on several multi-year projects for companies like Motorola, Electro-Motive Diesel and Boeing. He has contributed to the development and continual improvement regarding the IL workNet workshop program. He founded Social Media Emotional Intelligence (SMEI) to focus on Job Referrals. Bob has helped place individuals through sponsored referrals, as well as shorten the transition time for people looking for work.

Job seekers always want to find "Culture Fit", while also wanting themselves to win positions that they love.  Shane will walk you through how to use Social Styles technology to better fit with the interviewer and determine the cultural fit for you, as the interviewee.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Shane Swanson, CLU, ChFC, CLF, CFP is Managing Director for Illinois for Mutual of Omaha Advisors, a Fortune 400 leading insurance and investment firm.  Shane has 25 years of industry experience, including successfully running 2 agencies, as well as 10 years of regional management experience.  For a large portion of his time in the financial services industry, Shane has been involved in interviewing and training interviewers on finding top talent.  Shane’s goal is to bring to bear his personal involvement in over 8,000 interviews to bear in guiding participants to a better understanding of their own social style and how to diagnose the social style of the interviewer.  Candidates that have used this training report a better ability to “connect” with the interviewer, and thus win their dream job.
